This is a potential project that would develop easy-to-use instructions for the Event Prediction tool.

Description

A working subgroup of COP members will be working with Marketing Options to create an instruction manual for the Event Predication and Mitigation software tool.

Objective

Early prediction of process upsets has been called by some as the “holy grail” of abnormal situation management. The COP centroid technique has shown proof of concept for detection of process upsets hours prior to conventional methods. A user’s manual is now needed to compile and convert the technical project information for the casual user.

Driving questions

None

Background

The Event Prediction and Mitigation (EPM) project was a multi-year process. The bulk of the work was performed by the University of Texas. The end result is software that can be used to create a zone of normal operation for a process and identity potential disruptions to that process. Currently an e-manual has been created by the software designer and a webinar on its use created. Both are on the COP website.

While the software is usable, it is not user friendly. A guide is needed to assist potential users in how to collect the appropriate data and conduct the analyses.

Deliverables

A manual in both paper and electronic formats on how to use the EPM software
