A train-the-trainer toolset that challenges long-held beliefs about training by contrasting effective and detrimental training techniques that are applicable to one-on-one or group training. Includes video demonstrations.
Cognitive training is not rule-based or procedural, rather it is about making sense of situations, making decisions, detecting and diagnosing problems, prioritizing and trading off goals, anticipating future states, and performing workarounds. These skills also make up an operator’s tacit knowledge, which can be difficult for them to articulate. The cornerstone of CAARGO is to help trainers conduct cognitively oriented training, uncover and correct faulty assumptions, help trainees work through the troubleshooting process, and conduct interviews of near misses of actual upsets or recoveries.
This toolset with its supporting video challenges three long-held beliefs about training and offers more effective alternatives - Critical to Curious; Procedural to Problems Solving; and Evaluation to Encouragement.
